AHP and the Environment
Environmental Update
At AHP, we recognize the reality of the impact of disposable diapers on
the environment. Consider that 90-95% of all diapers in this country are
disposables. Most of these products end up in landfills. Although we do
manufacture disposable diapers and training pants from chlorine-free
materials we realize that this alone is not enough and are continuously
searching for raw materials that are better for the environment.
As one of our social responsibility endeavors, we are committed to
improving our environmental footprint in many of our operational
decisions. Some of these endeavors include:
- Paper, plastic and corrugate recycling programs at each of our corporate, manufacturing & distribution facilities.
- Recycling 90% of all waste generated by our Delaware, Ohio and Vancouver, Washington facilities.
- Replacing all propane-powered fork lifts with electric versions, thereby reducing carbon emissions.
- Converting to high-efficiency fluorescent light fixtures, resulting in a 30% energy reduction.
- Reducing HVAC requirements by 50% through energy efficient floor plan design at our new plant.
- Installing multiple filtration systems to remove airborne dust and particles.
- Planting over 200 new trees during construction of our 300,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Delaware while cutting down only 3 trees.
- Converting to compressed packaging, this allows for reduced material usage. Smaller packaging means shipping more products using fewer trucks, significantly reducing fuel consumption.
- Expanding the use of 25% recycled poly packaging in our operations.
- Conduct quarterly storm water testing for PH, copper, zinc, grease and oil.
And, beginning in 2009, as part of our continued efforts to effectively communicate and solicit new ideas around our
environmental commitment, AHP will begin publishing a quarterly newsletter to all employees.
